The City is proposing the adoption of a new zoning ordinance to assist in attaining the goals set forth by the adopted Future Land Use and Development Plan. These goals in a large part seek to improve, revitalize, and redevelop the traditional core of our community in a manner that is context appropriate, as well as develop the remainder of our city in an orderly, well-planned fashion.
The public is encouraged to review the full draft ordinance, as well as the two maps referenced in the ordinance. One map displays zoning districts for the "traditional area" of Athens, covering the historic core of the City, and another displays the proposed zones for the "conventional area" of our City.
There will be a public hearing on March 23 at the Athens City Council meeting, which is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. at the City Hall council chambers.
