Parks & Pools

The City of Athens has 7 public parks. Each park has a playground and 3 have tennis courts. We also have a kids dugout playground at the Athens Sportplex and a Municipal pool to help cool down on those hot summer days.

Classes

The Athens Recreation Center offers pickup basketball games, retrobics classes and Wado Ryu Karate classes for both children and adults. Many times a parent joins their child in learning karate.

Trails

If you enjoy taking a walk in the woods or jogging for exercise then check out one of our 4 tracks/trails, including Swan Creek Greenway.

Golf Courses

The Canebrake Club is a private Golf Club located in Athens. We are also within a half hour drive of Joe Wheeler State Park, which includes a public course.

Fishing

If you like to fish then you are within a 20-minute drive of the Elk River to the West and the Wheeler Reservoir to the South. Both offer several boat launches and quality fishing spots.
