Athens Water Services is a division of The City of Athens Utilities. Athens Utilities is owned by the City of Athens and governance is provided by the City Council which meets the second and fourth Monday evenings of each month with the Work Session beginning at 4:00 and the Council meeting 4:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers which is located at 200 Hobbs Street West.

We provide water service to approximately 10,600 customers and sewerage service to approximately 7,200 customers. We continually strive to provide a high quality of service to all our customers with a minimal amount of interruption and inconvenience when construction or maintenance activities are performed

ATTENTION: Department to start smoke testing

Between July and August, our department will conduct daily smoke testing on selected wastewater sewer lines. This is a simple procedure that includes placing a smoke blower over an open manhole. It is not toxic.

EPA Issues Health Advisories

Consistent with EPA’s mission and responsibility to protect public health, EPA is issuing these interim health advisories for PFOA and PFOS to help inform the public of new scientific information on these chemicals’ health effects.

In response, Athens Utilities Water Services is providing its customers with information about its system and links to obtain more information from the EPA.
