The new Athens Recreation & Fitness Center is open! Our fitness gym has state of the art equipment to meet your needs. We have cardio and strength training machines, as well as free weights. We have 2 main exercise rooms that be divided into 4 rooms. We currently have 9 of the best instructors that teach 40 classes a week, offering classes such as the following:  

Dance Fitness:
A type of group exercise class that incorporates some or many forms of dance. It’s an aerobic workout, divided into different tracks that provide peaks and troughs of intensity. The overall intensity of a class varies depending on the style you’re doing. All levels welcome, modifications available.

Strength Training/Body Works:
Works your muscles by using resistance, like a dumbbell or your own body weight. This type of exercise increases lean muscle mass, which is particularly important for weight loss, because lean muscle burns more calories than other types of tissue. All levels welcome.

Super Circuits:
Circuit training is a form of body conditioning, endurance, and resistance training using high-intensity aerobics. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise "circuit" is one completion of all set exercises in the program. All levels welcome, modifications available.

Balanced Bootcamp:
Generally include a mix of aerobic, strength training, and speed elements. This is essentially a type of interval training — bursts of intense activity alternated with intervals of lighter activity. All levels welcome, modifications available.

High-intensity interval training, also called high-intensity intermittent exercise or sprint interval training, is a form of interval training, a cardiovascular exercise strategy alternating short periods of intense anaerobic exercise with less intense recovery periods. All levels welcome, modifications available.

This class is a timed high intensity interval training class that will fuse plyometrics, cardio and strength training into one action packed hour of class. All levels welcome, modifications available.

Hybrid workout class - combining ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training. Most classes incorporate a ballet barre and use classic dance moves such as plies, alongside static stretches. Barre also focuses on high reps of small range movements.

Spin is a high-intensity cycling workout that generally takes place on a stationary machine focusing on endurance, strength, and intervals.

Faith & Fitness:
Workout style that combines strength training and HIIT. This workout is focused on your  physical, mental, and spiritual health. This class will help promote growth in all of these areas through fitness and fellowship. 

Butts & Guts:
Butts and Guts will train and tighten all regions of the lower body and core with targeted movements and intense cardio. This 45 minute workout will focus on the abs ,glutes, legs, and lower back using light weights and body resistance with bands. Tone your body, and respect your body, it's the only one you get!
