James Lucas previously served on the Athens City Board of Education, and was the longest standing board member in the State of Alabama when he resigned in 2022. He began serving in 1995. 

Mr. Lucas is a graduate of Trinity High School in Athens and served in the U.S. Army. He has an associate’s degree in business administration, and is a former employee at Radio Corporation of America on Redstone Arsenal and Amoco Chemical.

He is married to Carolyn McWilliams Lucas, and they have three children.
