How do I obtain a fire report from an incident?: Fire reports can be picked up from the Fire Administration offices located at:
City Hall
200 W. Hobbs St.
Athens, AL 35611

Reports can be picked up between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Most fire reports are available in 3-4 business days after the incident. You can call the administration office at 256-233-8710 to see if your report is ready. At this time, there is no charge for a copy of a fire report.

1. Is Athens Fire Department currently hiring?: Applications for firefighter will be accepted when a position becomes available. Upon position availability, a Job Announcement will be posted by Human Resources. All completed applications(must include CPAT form and any certifications) shall be submitted by the closing date on the announcement to be considered. Potential candidates will then be contacted for testing when the process begins. Are fireworks allowed in the City of Athens?: No. Notice referenced by city ordinance: Section 38-100, "Fireworks prohibited in the city," which states, "It shall be unlawful for any person within the corporate limits of the city to cause to explode, buy, sell, keep, have in possession, store, trade, or give away any firecrackers, fireworks, pyrotechnics or any other article, item, or device in the nature of fireworks." (Ordinance number 2007-1658, § 2, 11-5-2007)

4. Does the Fire Department fill up swimming pools?: No. The Fire Department cannot come out and fill up a swimming pool. You can contact the water department / Athens Utilities at 256-233-8750 to have a meter attached to a hydrant and rent hose if a hydrant is close enough to your residence. You may not block the street with rented hose if the hydrant is across the street.

5. Does the Fire Department rescue animals?: From burning structures yes when it is possible without danger to firefighter’s lives. But not on a general basis.

6. What kind of Fire Extinguisher(s) do I need for my home or business?: There are various sizes and types that can apply for different applications. Please contact the Fire Prevention Bureau at 256-233-8723 for more assistance with this matter.
