Signs are regulated by Athens Zoning Ordinance § 13 (“Sign Control Regulations). Signs that do not fall within the rules of the Zoning Ordinance can not be approved by the Zoning Official. A variance may be sought from the Zoning Board of Adjustment by filling out a Zoning Board of Adjustment application.

For temporary signs, there is a separate application. All temporary signs require department approval BEFORE the sign is erected.
Defining Attached and Detached Signs:
Attached Signs: refer to Zoning Ordinance 13.2.4(A)).

Detached Signs: refer to Zoning Ordinance 13.2.4(C)).
