Biography
Harold Wales has served on the Athens City Council since 2004. He was born in Ardmore, Ala, in 1943. He attended Ardmore Elementary and graduated from Elkmont High School. Mr. Wales attended Alvis and Draughn's Business College, the University of Toledo in Ohio, and Calhoun Community College.
Mr. Wales retired from Delphi Steering after 28 years in materials management and purchasing. He and his wife Carol have three children and grandchildren. He attends First Baptist Church.
Mr. Wales serves on the Athens Planning Commission and Solid Waste Board. His community service includes:

- Athens Youth Football Association
- Athens Boys Baseball
- Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful
- Prime Time Players a group that produces Poke Sallet Follies for the Foundation for Aging.
His awards and honors include:
- Personal Leadership Honor from University of Toledo
- President's Call to Service Award
- Certifications in zoning and advanced municipal official
- He has served various times as president of the Athens City Council
